Indian Dance Workshops - in the footsteps of the monks of Majuli, Assam

The wonderful woven textile from North East India created in the 17th century used for the lining of the gentleman’s gown spectacularly displayed at Chepstow Museum, shows images that tell stories from the life of Krishna and other incarnations of Vishnu. The complicated weaving technique has long died out in Assam, but what does survive is the telling of those same tales through dance dramas. The dances practised by the monks have been recognised as a distinct artform known as Sattriya dance. G
Beginners workshop 11am -12noon £5 (all ages welcome, no dance experience needed!)
Dancers with experience of any kind of dance, 2-4pm £10
