Lunchtime presentation by Dr Eryn White & Dr Cathryn Charnell-White, celebrating 300 years of printing in Wales. Lewis Morris claimed that the printing press was the light of the whole world, but for years the growth of a printing industry in Wales was stifled by the law that stated that such enterprises could only be undertaken in London, Oxford and Cambridge. The ending of these restrictions in 1695 saw the establishment of the first printing press on Welsh soil, in 1718. This lecture looks
