Talk: Dame Ethel Smyth (1858–1944): Composer, Writer, Suffragette, and Woking Resident

On International Women’s Day, Dr Christopher Wiley, senior lecturer in music at the University of Surrey, will discuss the life and works of Ethel Smyth, one of Woking’s most famous former residents. Smyth entered the music profession at a time when women composers were under-represented internationally, becoming one of the foremost British composers of her generation.
