Nail making and Victorian toys @ The Yard

Christopher Turton is a regular demonstrator at the Black Country Living Museum. He will be demonstrating how nails were made by the local blacksmith. Before the advent of mass production the blacksmith was a pivotal in village life making a wide range of metal tools, agricultural and household objects. The joints in many of the early wooden buildings were pinned with wooden dowels but the durability and strength of nails meant they were soon in high demand at local forges. Listen to the tales a
