The History of Dartmoor Prison. An illustrated talk by Simon Dell
An event in support of Crediton Parish Church Campaign Roof Appeal. Simon Dell is a retired police officer who now gives around 200 talks annually on a wide range of subjects. Simon leads guided walks on Dartmoor and has published a number of books and pamphlets.
Dartmoor Prison has a history back to 1806 when building began on a fifteen acre site to house French prisoners of war. After 1850 it became a convict prison. During WW1 it housed conscientious objectors. The prison has also seen
