Sheffield Walking Festival
Sheffield is a city of great contrasts, as represented by the diversity of walks on offer. There are short urban strolls, many of them in partnership with Heritage Open Days. These are principally guided historical tours, led by experts in their particular field. The pace will be gentle and there will be frequent stops to look and learn. The intermediate suburban walks usually combine history and scenery, and though the leader may have some historical knowledge, there will be fewer stops and more walking. The medium and strenuous routes are for the seasoned walker. Many of the moderate walks overlap with the Peak District and there is an opportunity to cover the Western and Eastern sections of the Sheffield Greenway over four days. At the other end of the spectrum, you can take on the 15-mile plus challenges of the Sheffield Round Walk and Stanage Edge. Public transport recommendations give the bus timed to correspond with the start of the walk.
