Anne Walker’s in-laws: The Sutherland Family of Scotland and Lightclif
This Talk begins with a bang – a murder in the 1750s West Highlands, and tells the fascinating story of a family from its Scots roots to a Halifax marriage – and beyond. Along the way, hear how Ann Walker’s scheming brother-in-law Captain Sutherland ensured she was shut away in an asylum near York, moving into her home Shibden Hall himself. His son sold Crow Nest mansion and returned to Scotland, to an unfortunate future. A curious tale including extreme greed, child abuse, and bankruptcy.
