Other Ranks: A dramatic commemoration of the citizen soldiers of WW1
Script and direction by acclaimed Hull poet John Robinson. Original music by jazz trombonist & composer Paul Taylor. Performed by the Duckboard Marching Band.
A dramatic commemoration of the region's citizen soldiers who fought in the Great War, OTHER RANKS tells of men like Arthur Goring. He was working at Barton's Adamant Cement Works when, in August 1914, he joined the 1/5 Battalion on the Lincoln Regiment and went on to fight at Loos, the Somme and Arras. Unlike so many of his generation he survived to tell the tale. most notably to his step-grandson, the writer John Robinson, whose own grandfather had died of his wounds in 1918.
Closely integrating rich language with superb original music for a small brass and percussion ensemble, this acclaimed work: "...elevates the tragedy of WW1 to the tragedy of the human condition." Dr John Osborne University of Hull
OTHER RANKS celebrates poetry and robust language, music, song, humour and predicament.
