Inspiring People: Anita Anand

Journalist and TV and radio presenter Anita Anand tells us the extraordinary story of Sophia Duleep Singh, a princess turned Suffragette.

Bold and fearless, Sophia was born into Indian royalty but devoted herself to battling injustice and inequality, and, above all, fighting for women’s rights.

This amazing story about the rise of women and the fall of empire, and the key role Sophia played in the first British women getting the vote in the UK was unearthed by Anita Anand in her acclaimed book Sophia – Princess, Suffragette, Revolutionary. Her latest book, Koh-i-Noor, the story of the world’s most infamous diamond, is already an international bestseller.
