Brahms: Ein Deutsches Requiem

Despite the title, Brahms’ German Requiem does not set the traditional Mass for the Dead, but rather a selection of texts from the bible offering comfort to the living in their grief. It includes the heart-rending soprano solo that he withheld from release until he knew that the work as a whole was successful.
