Birmingham Storytelling Cafe in Lockdown
The Trouble with being King, according to Amy Douglas
It’s summer time in Birmingham, the trees are in full bloom and the sun is shining bright (well some of the time at least). As well as welcoming the season of warmth and life, the Cafe is proud to welcome the magnificent Amy Douglas as our featured storyteller for June. Amy will be joining us to share some of the tales of world-renowned traditional Scots Traveller storyteller and ballad-singer Duncan Williamson.
Claiming a crown, ruling a kingdom, raising princes and princesses in safety – these are tricky triumphs and the path to success is littered with stories. From rags to riches and back again, becoming King does not always guarantee living happily ever after.
Amy Douglas is a gossip, wordsmith and lover of the spoken word in all its forms. Over the past three decades, she has been instrumental in the modern British storytelling landscape as performer, promoter and advocate. After winning 'Young Storyteller of the Year' at 16, Amy apprenticed to Duncan Williamson, and now holds many of his stories and ballads in trust.
As always, alongside our featured guest will be a selection of tales of magic, mystery and mirth from your very own Cafe Crew. Be sure to join us in June for what is certain to be a royally good time.
Tickets are available for £5 plus 50p booking fee from wegottickets.com
