Keswick Hall Choir concert: Over The Alps
The main work in the programme will be Monteverdi's 6-part 'Missa In
illo tempore'. Published in the same collection as his famous Vespers
(1610), the Mass is based on a motet by the 16th-Century Flemish
composer Nicolas Gombert. This will be contrasted with a selection of
motets by Jan Pieterszoon Sweelinck and Peter Philips. Philips was
exiled to Flanders for his Catholic leanings and, at some point, met
Sweelinck in Amsterdam. They are almost exact contemporaries
