Pangbourne Twinning Association French Film Night - 'School of Life'
A film by Nicolas Vanier.
Paul is trapped behind the high walls of an austere orphanage in Paris.
It is the only life he has ever known, but he is given the chance of a new life when a bohemian couple, Célestine and Borel, take him back to their countryside home on a vast estate in Sologne, where Borel is the gamekeeper.
Paul soon starts to explore the huge forests, the pools and the fields of the estate which is owned by the Count de la Fresnaye. The Count has a fractious relationship with Borel due to the former’s toleration of poachers on the estate.
Borel relentlessly hunts down these trespassers, particularly Totoche, the most wily and elusive of them, who happens to befriend Paul. This is unknown to Paul’s adoptive parents.
Paul learns about the countryside, its mysteries and the complexities of life alongside Totoche, but a heavy secret weighs down the estate as Paul’s arrival seems to be no accident…..
