The Dovecotes and Pigeon Lofts of Berkshire. A talk by Andrew Hutt
Newbury District Field Club: In the middle ages pigeons and doves were a valued resource and dovecotes were commonplace, today they are still built as garden features. The Berkshire Archaeology Research Group ran a project, led by Dr Hutt to survey these structures within the boundaries of old Berkshire (pre-1974 boundaries). This talk presents the results of the survey and illustrates the survival of historic dovecotes from the middle ages to more recent times.
Open from 1.45pm, talk starts at 2.00pm. Free to club members, £3 for visitors.
