Since its foundation in 1831, the Royal Institute of Painters in Water Colours (RI) has promoted the essentially English art of watercolour. The RI is one of the oldest and most respected watercolour societies in the world. In 1883 Queen Victoria granted the Institute a Royal Warrant.
