Reading Haydn Choir Summer Concert – Chilcott and Vaughan Williams
Our concert this year includes Vaughan Williams’ Five Mystical Songs and Bob Chilcott’s A Little Jazz Mass.
The music for the Five Mystical Songs was written between 1906 and 1911 and the work sets four poems by the Welsh-born seventeenth century poet and priest, George Herbert. The final song is a setting of the hymn Let All the World, a fitting, and rousing, finale to the work.
Bob Chilcott’s Little Jazz Mass was originally composed for the 2004 Crescent City Choral Festival, New Orlean
