This talk by John A Baker covers the History of Balloon and Airship Flight in Berkshire, from 1783 when a balloon was demonstrated at Windsor Castle, to The Icicle Balloon Meet held at Newbury in the 1970s. Other locations include Windsor Racecourse, and Reading and Newbury Gasworks. Historical celebrities such as Newbury’s own Aeronauts Rev John Bacon and his daughter Gertrude, who lived at Shaw, will be featured.
