Talk - A 17th Century Christmas
This talk by Tim Healey presents a vibrant portrait of Christmas in a turbulent age. There are Lords of Misrule, Twelfth Night revels, wassails, boar’s head feasts, frost fairs on the frozen Thames – and a Puritan ban on Christmas itself. A freelance writer and broadcaster, Tim Healey also directs the 17th-century costume band, The Oxford Waits.
Authentic 17th century nibbles will be available for you to try if you wish. These will include white gingerbread, cherry pottage, cracknels and trout
