Cerne Abbas For Sale 1919

At 1.30pm on 24th September 1919, most of the village of Cerne Abbas was put up for sale at auction in Dorchester Town Hall by the Pitt-Rivers family which had owned it since 1705. The sale included houses, shops, farms, pubs and plots of land. Sold in 73 lots, the sale raised £67,402 for the family.
