Howden's Airship Heritage

Howden has a rich history in the development and use of airships between 1915 and 1930. It was the site of one of East Yorkshire's bases for airships that monitored shipping in the North Sea and deterred German submarines during the first world war. During the 1920s the airfield was used for the design and construction of the R100 - one of Britain's largest airships designed for long distance air travel.
