Exhibition: Those Who Came Before Us
The exhibition is presented in conjunction with art psychotherapist Sophia Cowx. It builds on the successful National Refugee Week display and Eye to Eye experiment last year, and follows this year’s theme, ‘You, me and those who came before’, an invitation to explore the lives of refugees – and those who have welcomed them – throughout the generations. It explores Dorking's response to refugee crises in the past, the emergence of the poppy symbol 100 years ago at the end of the First World War as a creative response to the trauma of war, and the poppy's connections with healing for centuries.
