Heritage Open Day: View the recently restored Exeter Dissenters Graveyard. ‘Dissenters’ was the term for a range of Protestant sects who broke away from or were expelled from the Anglican Church during and after the Civil War. This small graveyard accommodated perhaps 2,000 burials. The restoration of the Graveyard allows viewing of rebuilt and repaired memorials. Faded inscriptions have been deciphered and the texts will be displayed. Research on family histories has produced a mass of information which will be available on-site. Information boards by the entrance and inside enable the site and its historical context to be understood. A free leaflet providing a short history will be available and a booklet providing a more detailed history will be for sale.
