Dancing on the Tyne - Open Evening

Join us to rediscover Newcastle’s ‘Scottish’ dance tunes, composed by eighteenth-century dancing master Abraham Mackintosh. Find out why ‘Scottish’ dances became popular and explore how being closer to Edinburgh than London has long shaped Newcastle’s cultural heritage and identity. Visit our exhibition and listen to our short performance-talks to discover the local people and places who inspired Mackintosh’s tunes. Hear the tunes performed and join in some eighteenth-century dancing!
