Dogwood Rose featured guests at the Tearoom Acoustic Session
Michael and Judy met over a decade ago at a local folk club where they were drawn together by a shared love of the music of Gillian Welch. They soon built up a repertoire of songs, expanding to include other musicians’ work which draws on the same early American tradition. Central to their style was the belief that they should not ‘cover’ songs but reinterpret them in their own way. In this respect Judy’s lovely voice is purely her own and an imitation of no-one.
For 8 years they were joined by brilliant violinist Kiri Smith who helped to forge a distinctive sound and presence for the band with her thrilling solos and great harmonies. Sadly, she had to leave last year due to work commitments. Multi-talented Chris McMahon of Treebeard fame stepped in for the band’s annual folk train gig in January and has remained ever since. A musical tour de force, his many fans will love the scope he has to add energy and virtuosity to Dogwood Rose.
