Cheltenham Choral Society are delighted to bring to you these three works under our new conductor Alex Thacker at our new regular venue, Christchurch.
The Gloria was composed by Vivaldi in 1715.
Mozart wrote his ‘Coronation’ Mass at the age of 23 in 1779. it was performed for the coronations of Leopold II in Prague and Francis I of Austria. It is one of the most popular of his masses, a celebratory work, jubilant in tone.
Cherubini excelled in producing sacred music and it is his Requiem in C minor for which he is most remembered. The work is for a four part choir with no soloists. It is a highly dramatic piece of writing, greatly admired when it was first performed in 1816. Beethoven so admired it that it was played at his funeral
