Spitalfields Gardens - Open Garden for NGS
Discover a selection of courtyard gardens, some very small, behind fine C17 French Huguenots merchants' and weavers' houses in Spitalfields. Visit the courtyard of 37 Spital Square, on the site of the C12 priory of St Mary's Spital, now the Society for the Protection of Ancient Buildings, founded by William Morris in 1877. Experience a 'vertical' garden and roof terrace in nearby Elder Street, an architect-designed garden in Wilkes Street, three small courtyards in Fournier Street, a larger imaginatively created garden in Princelet Street, and a 'theatrical' garden in Calvin St, behind a former warehouse.
Sat 13 June (11-4). Combined adm £15, Children free. Home-made teas at Town House, 5 Fournier St, 29 & 30 Fournier St. Maps available. Times:11:00 to 16:00. Open for charity.
