Bootham Baroque present Domestic Devotions
Baroque vocal music:
On the eve of Candlemas we perform the seasonal cantata for soprano with obbligato flute from Telemann’s 1726 Harmonischer Gottes-Dienst; this was published for domestic use, and we place it in the context of other devotional pieces intended or appropriate for non-liturgical performance: attractive three-voice psalm settings by Schütz’s pupil Johann Vierdanck, soprano duets from Johann Kasper Kerll and Andreas Hammerschmidt, together with expressive solos by Pelham Humphrey and Henry Purcell.
Supported by York Unitarians.
Rachel Smith – soprano, Adam Piplica - alto, Sarah Sketchley - soprano & baroque flute,
Chris Sketchley - harpsichord, William Hunt - baroque cello.
Concert 12.00 noon; ends 1.00pm
Admission £5 (under-16 free).
