Friday 6th June at 7:30pm.
Stuart Buxton presents his new talk : “How did this strange roadside marker help us win the war”
The secret story of how Britain supplied fuel to its wartime aerodromes, and the facilities hidden in plain sight today, which are still feeding our vital infrastructure.
This aspect of World War II is little known…. Consider the amount of fuel required for all the Bomber Bases and others in East Anglia – especially when the RAF and USAAF were mounting mass air raids on strategic enemy sites in Germany and elsewhere. The alternative was to use fleets of Petrol Tankers – not good on the many narrow country roads leading to the airfields.
