Offenbach’s Orpheus in the Underworld
The University of Portsmouth Dramatic and Musical Society presents Offenbach’s uproarious take on the legend pits Orpheus against Eurydice. He is a musician, she hates his music, and both are having affairs. When she dies from a snake-bite, he is delighted, but Public Opinion dictates that he must at least feign grief and go to the Underworld to retrieve her.
