Jane Austen: The Banker’s Sister

When the £10 Austen banknote was announced by the Bank of England in 2013, few were aware that a £10 Austen banknote already existed: issued by her favourite brother, Henry between 1806-1814.

In this talk, E.J. Clery, a professor at the University of Southampton, will discuss the research behind her ground-breaking dual biography of Jane and Henry Austen and reconstruct the story behind the original Austen banknotes, including surviving examples from the country bank in Petersfield where Henry was a partner.

This talk takes place at St Peter's Church Hall, St Peter's Rd.
