Welcome to England’s largest festival of history and culture! Every September thousands of volunteers across England organise events to celebrate our fantastic history and culture. It's your chance to see hidden places and try out new experiences – all of which are FREE to explore. Heritage Open Day: 80 Years of Lancashire Archives. This year to celebrate 80 years of Lancashire Archives and 45 years since the opening of the Record Office on Bow Lane in Preston, we will look at the history of the building and the work of Lancashire's County Architect from 1963-1983, Roger Booth.
