Gunpowder, Treason and Plot
This October half term, the Bar Convent needs your help to track down a gunpowder plotter! Take our exciting self-led trail through our exhibition from Saturday 24th October to Thursday 5th November, 10am to 5pm (closed Sundays). A family ticket for two adults and two children is just £10 and the trail is included in the cost of entry.
“You might have heard of Guy Fawkes and the famous plot to blow up parliament in 1605, but he didn’t work alone… I was friends with Guy Fawkes at school, and together we tried to overthrow King James I. Needless to say, we weren’t successful – but the Gunpowder Plot made history. Guy Fawkes became one of the most infamous names to come from York, whereas I am hardly known in comparison.
If you want to discover my identity, and about my links with the Bar Convent, you’ll have to follow my trail. Look out for my letters hidden through the exhibition, they’ll give you hints. If you can do it, there’s a prize in it for you!”
