Dark Skies Festival
Whether it’s discovering how bats use echoes to find their prey; posing questions to an astronomer while watching live pictures of the moon; or being amazed at an astronaut’s life during a space mission, this year’s Virtual Dark Skies Festival promises a bumper programme of discovery and entertainment for people of all ages.
The Festival organisers, the North York Moors and Yorkshire Dales National Parks, have moved the event online and have lined up a programme of astronomers, professors, researchers and astro photographers who will share their passion for the dark side.
As well as plenty of family-friendly events, weather permitting, there will be livestreaming of pictures of the moon by astronomers across Britain as it enters its full phase.
Plus there will be a presentation on Mars and, if timing coincides, a live relay of pictures showing the landing of Nasa's Perseverance mini robot on the planet on the 18 February.
Times vary. Many events are free but for some there is a small charge.
