Cascades Garden, Derbyshire; a garden for health - Virtual Open Garden - NGS
Thirty years ago a devastating family bereavement led garden owner Alan Clements on a journey of discovery. He visited Japan, learned about Zen meditation and met the Dalai Lama, returning to England with a totally different understanding of what gardens are all about. Originally, he had planned a quiet corner in which to find peace and to remind himself of the principles of Buddhism that he’d learned but over the years he has transformed an old quarry into a haven of tranquillity that is now enjoyed by visitors of all ages.
The National Garden Scheme gives visitors unique access to over 3,500 exceptional private gardens in England and Wales, and raises impressive amounts of money for nursing and health charities through admissions, teas and cake.
