Vivienne Albiston – In The Spotlight
King Street Gallery member Vivienne Albiston will be showcasing her latest project in The Spotlight Room throughout September. “Always fascinated with groups and collections I regularly use this platform to develop my thrown and hand-built ceramics. Working with multiples has that lovely ability of allowing my vessels to form their own visual ceramic narrative. The simplicity of their shape, which is deliberate, serves to highlight the small differences which exist between the groups.”
A ‘response’ to the pandemic was the brief:
I'm an optimist, so I looked for the positive, in the last years mayhem and sadness. The garden did and has became very important to many, both flowers and veggie. Somewhere to work and forget or to just sit and think, both a physical and a mental relaxation.
Acoma Seed pots from Acoma Pueblo really interested me. Not only their shape but the making of a vessel which would hold seeds viable for next year`s crop.
This then turned into an adventure in clay, round pots, square pots, rectangular, all with one magical purpose.
And my hats off to all you box makers, definetly nowhere near as simple as I first thought.
