Harrogate Creative Stitchers
Harrogate Creative Stitchers is an independent group of stitchers and textile art enthusiasts, which meets at the ‘Friends Meeting House’, 12a, Queens Parade, Harrogate, HG1 5PP, on the second Saturday of each month. Doors open at 10.00am for a ‘Stitch and Chat’, then between 2.00pm – 4.00pm we have an expert speaker or demonstration.
We also meet on the last Tuesday of each month, for an informal meeting of sewing, coffee and a chat, in the coffee shop at the Everyman Cinema, ‘Westgate House’, Station Parade, Harrogate, HG1 1HQ at 10am.
The speaker at our meeting on Saturday 11th May will be Jessica Kinnersley. Jessica is a North East-based textile artist and tutor who studied Textiles and Surface Design before embarking on a career in art teaching and freelance embroidery design. She now develops her own artwork from her small studio in Northumberland and continues to enjoy teaching in a range of different settings. Working predominantly with found and repurposed linens, papers and objects, Jessica layers textures, stitched musings and printed images to create nostalgic, slow-stitched textile art. Her work explores memory, narrative and landscape.
‘My Journey in Textiles’ explores Jessica’s varied experiences working with textiles in industry and how it has influenced her current artistic practice.
Note for your diaries: on Saturday June 8th our speaker will be Lesley Wood whose talk covers her creative journey from being a fine art painter to a mixed media textile artist. The work included is mostly figurative narrative work which will appeal to those interested in portraiture.

Our membership fees are £45.00 per year. Each month, anyone attending the ‘Stitch and Chat’ in the morning is charged £2.00. Additionally, members are charged £3.00 to attend the afternoon talks, whereas visitors are charged £8.00.
