Chard Remembers: Food as History
Heritage Open Day: This event celebrates the stories and memories of local Chard residents through the theme of food. It contrasts the differences between village and town life, why people moved to the town, and even some war time memories. In 2003 Chard Museum through an Awards for All lottery grant created a project under the banner of ‘Chard Remembers’ called Food as History. Oral and video recordings, biographies, and transcripts came to light during the first lockdown in 2020. This event will share these memories, from people living in Chard at that time and who were all in their 70’s on the early 2000’s. Some tell stories of working ‘in service’ as, for example a ‘between-maid’ and who had to skin 6 rabbits every week.
