Christ's Hospital of Abingdon Heritage Open Day
Heritage Open Day: Visit our Almshouse site and take a look around the Hall where meetings of this Charity's Board of Governors still take place. We will have historic documents, memorabilia and maps of Abingdon. The Almshouses in Abingdon have been in existence since the 13th Century and have been administered by Christ's Hospital for 468 years. The almshouses themselves are still occupied so we are unable to let the public inside those, but the ancient meeting hall is set within the cloister of the almshouses and is equally as impressive. Not, normally open to the public, this is a rare opportunity to see paintings which are hung in the hall of past Governors and the 'Charter' given to Christ's Hospital in 1553 by Edward VI, making us one of the oldest charities in the country.
Sat 18 Sep:10am to 4pm. Free Entry.
