Roman Alcester Museum
Heritage Open Day: Roman Alcester Museum will be open over the weekend of 18th & 19th September 2021 when visitors will be able to view an impressive display of Roman era artifacts. We are planning craft events for children with a visit from a Roman centurion. Roman Alcester Museum displays Roman artifacts (including pottery, coins, jewellery, gemstones, bottles & glassware) that have been found within the town & visitors can come find out what life was like there in Roman times between the 1st and 4th centuries AD. These artifacts have been discovered from over 100 archaeological excavations, spanning the last 100+ years & include a mortarium thought to be nearly 2000 years old, plus a very impressive Samian Ware collection.
For the children, there will be specially run crafting sessions, plus the opportunity to dress in Roman costumes & to handle Roman pottery & other artifacts.
