Chard Reservoir Heritage and Conservation
Heritage Open Day: Visitors can have a brief chat about the history and heritage of the reservoir, and the conservation work that has gone on for many years to keep it as the wonderful reserve you see today. Blackberries may also be on offer for tasting! Members of the public can come and have a chance to learn more about the reservoir's history, and the work that has been done to restore parts of the heritage that the reservoir brought to Chard over a century ago. They can learn about the operations surrounding the reservoir including the disused railway and canal, the brief period of time where 'Chard Lido' existed as a staycation destination for many during the Second World War, as well as the ongoing conservation work that is carried out in order to maintain the reservoir as a site of beauty and discovery. In line with the 'Edible England' theme, we will hopefully have some foraged treats to offer those visiting us!
