St James the Less and St Helen's Church, Colchester
Heritage Open Day: St James the Less opened in 1837 and is the first post-Reformation Catholic parish church to be built in Colchester. The exterior and central part of the church was designed in the Norman style by the acclaimed Catholic architect John Joseph Scoles (1798-1863). He based his exterior design, which came with restrictions from the state, on Caen Cathedral in Normandy.
