St John's Almhouses Gardens
Heritage Open Day: A short film of the Chantry and the almshouses gardens which was taken in July. These private gardens off Spitalgate Lane are part of St John’s Hospital and other Almshouse Charities. Steeped in history, archaeological digs confirm a Roman presence, and later this was the site of the hospital that in the Middle Ages provided hospitality for travellers. The Chantry, Cirencester’s second oldest building, was originally the nave of the church dedicated to St John the Evangelist
