Victorian neo-gothic Cemetery Chapel
Heritage Open Day: The neo-gothic Cemetery Chapel was designed in 1856 as part of a Victorian Garden Cemetery, with an arboretum of native and exotic trees and pathways. Designed in 1856 by Mr Charles Davies, the Milton Road Cemetery was designed as a Victorian Garden Cemetery, with an arboretum of native and exotic trees and pathways to lead you round grounds to enjoy the spectacular views that the cemetery has to offer.
Two charming neo-14th century gothic chapels were built in pink limestone quarried on site, with buff Bath stone for mouldings for Church of England and non-Conformist services, though the latter was demolished in 1980. The surviving tower surmounted by an octagonal spire houses the chapel bell and was deliberately aligned in front of the top entrance gate.
