Museum of the Moon
Inspired by our collection and the Chinese Moon Festival, from Thu 23 – Sun 26 September we are presenting the Museum of the Moon, a spectacular touring artwork by UK artist Luke Jerram, in the backdrop of our iconic courtyard.
Measuring seven metres in diameter, the moon features 120dpi detailed NASA imagery of the lunar surface. At an approximate scale of 1:500,000, each centimetre of the internally lit spherical sculpture represents 5km of the moon’s surface. The installation is a fusion of lunar imagery, moonlight and surround sound composition created by BAFTA and Ivor Novello award winning composer Dan Jones.
The Moon Festival is an annual autumn celebration coinciding with 21st September 2021 with a mythology dating back 3000 years. In Chinese culture, the moon symbolises rejuvenation and the festival is a time for family reunion and feasting. Join us for an incredible evening with fire pits, delicious food and moon gazing.
