Romsey Choral Society Concert - Serenade to Music

Autumn 2021 Serenade to Music Concert
Pergolesi: Magnificat
Vaughan Williams: Serenade to Music
Beethoven: Elegischer Gesang
Schubert: Mass in G

Please join Romsey Choral Society for a wonderful evening of choral music accompanied by a string quintet and organ

If you are searching for a way to alleviate the gloom of late autumn and the encroaching long winter nights, why not come and join the Romsey Choral Society for an evening Serenade to Music.
This concert covers a wide range of musical styles from the Baroque period of Pergolesi’s “Magnificat” to Beethoven’s “Elegischer  Gesang” and Schubert’s ”Mass in G major” then on to the 20th century work by Vaughan Williams from which our concert takes its name, “A Serenade to Music”.
All of these pieces are really accessible and easy to listen to. The Pergolesi is very dynamic, bright and full of energy. The Beethoven is a short, gentle and lyrical work. The Schubert is a more extended piece with beautiful lyrical lines for both choir and soloists whilst Vaughan Williams’ “Serenade to Music” is a classic 20th century opus featuring a beautiful, long solo violin introduction.
The text for this is based on Lorenzo’s speech on music in Portia’s garden from Shakespeare’s play “The Merchant of Venice” and perfectly evokes the mood of a Mediterranean garden.
We very much hope that this concert will lighten and soothe your mood.
Concert starts at 7:30pm
