'Play & Display!' Paper & Card Toys
Relive childhood memories with this charming exhibition of paper and card toys!
Paper and card are the cheapest and easiest materials with which to make and build toys and models. Paper and card toys have been commercially produced from the late 1700s and all kinds of affordable, yet delightful toys have been produced since then. Shortages of metal and wood during the Second World War led to a revival in the popularity of paper and card toys. Today, templates can be easily downloaded from the internet.
The collection in this exhibition demonstrates how popular, versatile, and enchanting paper and card toys have been over the years. Examples on display include paper dolls, model theatres, puppets, panoramas, and cut-out books. They date from the 1880s to the 1960s and reveal how they have been endlessly updated to meet changing fashions.
Come and explore this wonderful collection of paper and card toys. There is so much to see and do with the family.
