Visit the Vulcan on Fathers' Day
Our Visit the Vulcan on Fathers' Day is an ideal day out for Dad and the family. You will have the opportunity to walk around and underneath the Vulcan’s huge delta wings and see examples of the weapons it carried, including two 1,000 lb High Explosive bombs, the type of bomb the Vulcan dropped on Port Stanley airfield during the 1982 Falklands Conflict.
For an additional fee you can climb inside for a guided tour of the Vulcan’s cockpit.
There will be much more to see with displays from the 10th Essex Living History Group, the Norfolk Great Way Living History Group, the Shoeburyness & South Essex Royal Artillery Association and the Southend Radio Controlled Model Flying Club (static display only!).
Also joining us will be the East Anglian Kawasaki Vulcan Riders Assocation who will be bringing 16 of their Kawasaki Vulcan motor bikes to stand alongside their aviation namesake.
The Rochford Fire Service, the Riverside Fire & Rescue Service and London Southend Airport's own fire service will be displaying their fire engines. The airport fire service will be testing the water cannon on their's, so you may want to bring your brolley!
There will be burger, hot dog and sweet and savoury pancake stands as well as a craft beer stall, so no one will go hungry or thirsty. The Vulcan Restoration Trust's souvenir stand will be open selling a selection of Vulcan souvenirs, including models, badges, patches, postcards, books and much more.
Cockpit visits will take place on a timed ticket basis, so there is no need to stand and queue.
Limited free car parking will be available close to the Vulcan. Please follow the ‘Vulcan Open Day’ direction signs after entering the airport. If the Vulcan car park is full, visitors will need to park in the airport’s short stay car park (for which there is a charge) which is approximately 10 minutes walk from the Vulcan.
