The Trinity Buoy Wharf Drawing Prize 2021 Exhibition Touring

Known as the UK’s most prestigious annual open exhibition for contemporary drawing, the Trinity Buoy Wharf Drawing Prize 2021 received 3,300 entries from 1,673 drawing practitioners living in 46 different countries.

Out of all the submissions, 114 drawings by 99 artists were selected for the exhibition. The Trinity Buoy Wharf Drawing Prize 2021 exhibition opened to the public at Trinity Buoy Wharf in London in September 2021, when £27,000 were awarded to the five prize winners. It will subsequently tour to Drawing Projects UK, Trowbridge, Wiltshire from 8 January to 5 March 2022 with support from Arts Council England.

The 114 artworks span a range of subjects, styles and forms – including pencil, charcoal, pen, pastel, collage and thread. The drawings address themes and experiences that reflect, record, and document the impact of the global pandemic, issues of climate change and social justice. They give us a glimpse into 90 artists’ preoccupations throughout 2021, from telling the story of the greatest Black Britons, to advocating for biodiversity, and advocating for feminist causes.

In addition to visiting the exhibition at Drawing Projects UK, art lovers can also watch an introductory film of the exhibition with the Trinity Buoy Wharf Drawing Prize Director, Professor Anita Taylor. A fully illustrated exhibition catalogue is available to purchase and many of the drawings included in the exhibition are for sale. A free downloadable education pack of ten worksheets devised by Drawing is Free with Drawing Projects UK is inspired by the exhibition and these thematic ‘drawing prompts’ are intended to inspire everyone to find connections through drawing with and by drawing.
