Zine-Making with Seleena Laverne Daye
We’re getting into the Zine Zone ready for February half term! Work with guest artist Seleena Laverne Date to create your very own Zine that celebrates who you are.
But what is a Zine?
Zine’s are usually small, independent magazines filled with art and words by anyone who has something to say and share. They’re about expressing yourself and sharing experiences not represented in the mainstream media.
Anyone can make a Zine – the very first Zines were created by Science Fiction fans in the 1930s so they could share their love of Sci-Fi! Today Zines can be about art, culture, fanbases, activism and identity and can be found throughout cities and communities.
Come and learn about the history of Zines and create your very own with the help of guest artist Seleena Laverne Daye. We’ll be exploring how Zines can celebrate identity, taking inspiration from some of the amazing people’s stories in our museum collection. Create your own Zine inspired by their lives or create one about yourself and your own chosen topic.
Our Zine workshops are for anyone aged 9+ - whether you’re a teen with something to tell the world, or a grown-up with a passion.
Families, friends, dates and mates welcome!
