Handel’s Coronation Anthems And Water Music
To celebrate the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee, Eboracum Baroque present a Royal programme of music featuring Handel’s glorious Coronation Anthems including Zadok the Priest. It’s also a chance to hear selections from his Water Music and some fiery operatic arias (including one with 4 trumpets!)
Handel composed 4 majestic anthems for the coronation of George II in 1727. These pieces have been hugely popular ever since and Zadok the Priest has been performed at every coronation since 1727. They feature a large orchestra including 3 trumpets and timpani as well as an 8 part choir.
The rest of the programme is detailed below but it will include selections from Handel’s Water Music Suite and opera arias by Handel including ‘Or La Tromba’ from Rinaldo with accompaniment from 4 baroque trumpets!
